From Brooklyn USA Stix Bones has developed into quite the drummer in recent years. Having started his career drumming for the likes of Jessica CARE Moore (Poet), Lyricist Lounge, Rahzel The Godfather of Noize(The Roots), DJ Maseo (De La Soul) and now collaborating with Jessie Lee Thetford on future tracks. By the time he made his recorded debut on the M.I.L. Multimedia/Michael Zager project In the Spirit, he has already become the drummer who rappers turned to when they are organizing a live group.

Stix came into drumming from an early age, at 8 years old he would pick up unsharpened pencils and start beating on the radio or with an imaginary drumset playing along to the beat of Madona and Prince. Then from the age of 9 after this broth left for college he would sit at his drum set and try to imitate him.

Now usually when I do this kind of thing I talk about the artist and a specific single but today is different because as a Jazz enthusiast and Stix Bones being a drummer I’m going to focus on an album which album? Well, it’s the one titled ‘Breaks From The Soul’. Released back in September last year, Breaks From The Soul features a number of talented artist from the New York area. As an instrumental project that includes elements of Jazz, Funk, and Hip Hop the album is a musical triumph that showcases talent and Stix Bones’ expert and elite level of drums and music.

To me, the album represents everything you love about New York. ‘Brooklyn Made’ sounds like something made out of an old black and white American film, ‘What The Funk You Want’ is a track that is so soulful the late great James Brown would be jealous of it, the same goes for ‘Funk With This’ while ‘Love On The Water’ has an underground jazz bar tune written all over it. Stix Bones is a wonderful musician and will turn any song he collaborates with into something very special.  Check out Breaks From The Soul Below.
